We use novel style posting on Star Trek Unity, so in-character posts should be similar to something you might see in a novel. In addition, we have a few little formalities about how to format posts to take advantage of the various font options on the forum to make them a bit easier to read.
Starting a Post: Posts should start with the location and time (if applicable) in bold, to set the scene.
Dialogue: There are a few different ways to do dialogue, depending on who is talking and how you are doing it. Dialogue should be formatted as follows:
Your character's dialogue: Your character's dialogue should be bolded, within quotation marks, and with appropriate punctuation and paragraph breaks.
Your character's thoughts: Posting in general terms about what your character is thinking does not require any special formatting. Specific, quoted thoughts should be in italics and do not require quotation marks.
NPC Dialogue: NPC dialogue follows the same formatting as character dialogue, except it should also be italicized.
Joint Posts: When doing joint posts, please colour code your dialogue when you post it, using your department colour if possible. At the end of your JP, note who all participated.
Ending a post: If you're ending a post at a place where it might be natural for someone else to pick it up, you can "tag" them at the end of your post to get their attention, and include short out of character notes.

"Star Trek Unity is so awesome," said Alenis. "What do you think, Ensign McMook?"

Alenis was thinking about how awesome Star Trek Unity is. It's the best thing since sliced bread, she thought. In fact, it's even better - it's the best thing since unsliced bread!
NPC Dialogue: NPC dialogue follows the same formatting as character dialogue, except it should also be italicized.
"Oh yeah, Star Trek Unity is so sweet," replied Ensign McMook. "I love it!"

Alenis looked up from her tea to see a familiar face. She recognized it as Lt. Cmdr. Kate Winslow, her Chief Intelligence Officer. "Ah, Lt. Cmdr. Winslow, have a seat. We were just talking about how awesome Star Trek Unity is."
Kate pulled up a chair from the adjacent table and sat down, placing her coffee on the table. "Yes, I completely agree. Star Trek Unity is the greatest."

Alenis decided to pay a visit to Commander Roseland to get his opinion on this matter. She briskly walked into his office, where he was seated at his desk reading reports on a PADD. "Commander Roseland, I need your opinion on a very important matter. Is Star Trek Unity awesome, or very awesome?"
